First Life is made up of DJ/producers Nick Hook and Martin Sharp. They have both been recording since the early 90s, and have enjoyed success as solo artists and as collaborators in many projects since those early years.
First Life has released tracks on many of the leading underground house music labels (see First Life's discography below) including Whoop Records, Om Records, In Music, Off The Hook Records, and Wallop Recordings, and had two mixes on John Digweed's classic Renaissance 2 compilation.
Between them Nick and Martin have also had tracks out on some of the UKs top dance labels including FFRR, Cream, Distinctive, React, Limbo, Multiply, Plastic Fantastic and Phonetic Recordings.
Nick has had 11 solo singles on various labels including 'The Funky Muzik' on Jeepers!, 'Enhanced' on Distinctive, 'New Credence' on Whoop!, 'Activate Me' on Strongroom Records, 'Skanking' on Whirld, 'Burn Out Baby' on In Music and many more on his own, now defunct, label Off The Hook Records. His collaborations have included Soundsource ('Take Me Up' - FFRR), Pleasure Box (Om Records), Hook & Lekker (Whoop!), Hook & Black (Segment) and Subterfuge (React), and his many remix credits include, Saint Etienne, The Grid, Gusto and Alex Neri. Martin Sharp was one half of Paris and Sharp, whose single 'Aphrodite' was signed to Cream and was one of the biggest dance tracks of 2001.
His recent solo single, I Got The Feeling' on Jeepers! has received support from many of the world's top DJs and he has also had singles out on Orient Recordings and In Music. Martin has done remixes for Wallop Recordings, In Music and Lost Language, and his more recently his remix of Nick Hook's 'The Funky Muzik', reached no.1 in the MOS electro download chart.
Both Nick and Martin have DJd extensively in the UK and Europe, including top UK clubs such as Ministry Of Sound, Egg, SE1, The Key, Camden Palace, Slam, Club UK etc, and in countries such as Russia, France, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Ireland and Ibiza.
Nick was resident DJ at two of London's legendary house music nights, Loosen Up and Whoop It Up, and still DJs at Loosen Up (www.loosenup.me.uk) events in London, and at his Brighton residency, Loose (www.loose-brighton.co.uk). He also continues to play guest spots all over.
In recent years First Life have been busy in the studio homing a new sound, and 2007 sees a return to form for the duo with new singles and remixes on various labels, including First Life's remixes of Luis Paris vs Adamski on Phonetic, and Janet Gabriel's 'The Power' on Inevitable.
A new First Life single, 'Survival', featuring the excellent vocals of Yamit Mamo, is also out now on Inevitable Records, while another single, 'The Preacher Man', is due for release on Friends Of The Family Records, in February 2008.
'That's Life', yet another new First Life single, featuring superb vocals and sax from Deeyana, is due for release on new label Jeepers! Music in early 2008.
